On December 6, 2002, the Reagan Building hosted the National Defense University Foundation American Patriot Awards. This award recognizes men and women of extraordinary excellence whose leadership has strengthened our nation. President George H. W. Bush’s selfless character, his love for his country, and his enduring contributions to the security of our nation and the peace of the world is what contributed to him receiving this award in 2002. Over 600 distinguished guests were present when Vice President Dick Cheney, Former U.S. Representative Sonny Montgomery, CIA Director George Tenet, and Former National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft handed the award to the President.
